My wife and I recently spent a long weekend in Ketchum/Sun Valley visiting our good friend and customer Terry Ring, who owns Silver Creek Outfitters in downtown Ketchum.

Silver Creek was started in the early 60s as a small fly-fishing shop that specialized in guided trips. Terry bought the store in 1979 and in 1994 he built a beautiful log building right on Main Street. It’s one of the nicest and most unique stores that carries our brand.
They still rule the roost in Ketchum when it comes to guided fly-fishing trips. When we were in the store during our visit, a [...]

Dressing well casually. In our increasingly casual world, you don’t want to be overdressed, but you want to be well-dressed. Buy premium brands. If you wear $1200-$2000 suits, don’t buy $60.00 khakis. The differences in look, fit and quality are obvious.
Try a new washed soft sport jacket. It will look much more appropriate with jeans or casual cotton pants and a ritzy woven shirt than a typical, tailored jacket.
Garment washing and special dyeing processes are a big deal for this fall season. The Italians are particularly adept at this. You’ll see pants, sweaters, [...]

I travel a fair amount. Both personally and for my work with Scott Barber Apparel. Now, I don’t play as much as I’d like, but when I have the chance I love to get out on the course. And, I love playing those “diamonds in the rough”-type courses, too. You know, those tracks that are fantastic to play, but don’t quite get the same kind of notoriety as places like Pebble Beach, Bethpage and the like.
I’m also constantly getting tips and advice on new courses to play from my friends, colleagues and family. So, today I thought I’d share a [...]

It’s time to dress comfortably and casually for spring. Here are a few suggestions on how to look stylish and current while doing so.
1. Brighten up. Stores are showing a lot of new fresh colors. Spend a bit of time picking those that flatter you. You’ll look fresh and seasonal in light blue, soft red, coral, apple green and lavender
2. Slim and trim. Don’t wear your clothes too tight, but embrace the moderate versions of the new [...]

Take a look at these photos. Shorts and short sleeves. Wind blowing through the model’s hair. And sun basking on their shoulders. Looks like it must have been 85 and sunny, right?
Wrong. Dead wrong.
Our latest photo shoot off the coast of Miami was anything but warm. Sure, historically it’s warm in mid-January in southern Florida. But, not on this day. On this winter day in paradise, it was 36 degrees with a 30-knot wind howling off the Atlantic.
Not ideal for photo shoots with spring clothing.
But, our models, Chris and Allison, were real troopers. They toughed it out while the rest [...]

I’ve mentioned in the past that I go to the Florence area a couple of times a year. It’s beautiful, historic and you just can’t beat the food. Since I love pasta and hearty food, Tuscany has become a favorite of mine over the years.
It’s hard not to drink wine when you’re in Tuscany (not that I try very hard). When I’m home in Colorado, drinking good Italian wine reminds me of great trips I’ve had there. And, when I say great wine, Tonya and I don’t drink expensive wine very often and I’m far from being a wine expert. [...]

Through Dean Harter, a good friend of mine and a customer who owns Retrah, a great store in Lewisburg, Penn., I had the opportunity recently to meet Don Friday. Don is the head basketball coach at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Penn. (Note: Dean also happens to be an orthopedic surgeon and became friends with Don when he was an assistant at Bucknell and Dean was the team physician). Don subsequently invited us to sit with him on the bench and watch his team play North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

What constitutes real value?
Now that the tree on which money used to grow has been pruned, how does the upscale consumer define and look for value? This is an interesting question to me and one that I think is pertinent to understanding the man who wears our clothes. Better brands are still doing well and the bottom has not dropped out from under the ultra-luxe business. This customer has become accustomed to exceptional quality and doesn’t want to settle for something ordinary. It makes sense that the customer now, more than in the past, wants to be sure he’s [...]
